A Bartholomew Griffin by Beverly Stock.

Richard was the King of England ,

Franco was the King of Spain,

Hitler thought himself a King,

Certainly the most unfit to reign.

The United States has no kings,

we have many other things,

Presidents, congress but no kings

different parties, new ideas bring.

Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, indeed

Right or Left Wing, or Independents (new breed)

Black Rights, Gay Rights, Women's Rights, now

All are important, Kings or candidates must know how

To Govern equally and fair

Kings, Presidents and Candidates all must care.

A Bartholomew Griffin is a poetic light verse of 14 lines or less. Metered or not, written repeating the same word throughout the poem.

Beverly Stock is an American poet living in St. Louis. Her work has been published on ClassicalPoets.org, at theChainedMuse.com, on Persimmontree.Org, and on the Webzine Lighten Up Online.
