Free verse by Beverly Stock.

Travel as the crow flies or

Measure in miles traversed in

Long twisting passages. Free-flowing,

Brackish waters between Cape Charles,

Past St. Michaels, to the shores of Baltimore,

blend and merge.

The consequence of ocean tides and river sediment,

Render a productive habitat for wildlife and

an animated laboratory for scientists.

An intriguing profusion of estuarine and migratory

co-mingling within saline and riverine influences.

All there to feed, reproduce and shelter.

year-round species, and amphibian tourists,

This arm of the seas, at the end of a river,

Draws me to the estuaries of Chesapeake Bay. Beverly Stock, at one time, lived near the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers in St. Louis, Missouri.

Beverly Stock is an American poet living in St. Louis. Her work has been published on ClassicalPoets.org, at theChainedMuse.com, and on the Webzine Lighten Up Online.
