Curious Expressions: Good Egg or Bad?

A Poem by Beverly Stock

Hello, I’m here to Break The Ice,

I have A Bone To Pick With You.

Are you being a Good Egg or Bad?

Regardless, Mind Your P’s and Q’s!

Son, your Fat is In The Fire,

Don’t Fry in Your Own Grease!

Because you Went Against The Grain,

You’re On A Wild Goose Chase.

Now you’ll Buy A Pig in a Poke,

Trying just to Save Your Bacon.

Please try not to Run Amuck,

Your Achilles Heel’ll be aching.

You are too young, Flash in The Pan,

Perhaps like a Bolt From The Blue.

Crazy like The Belfry Bats, and

The Hair Of the Dog that bit you.

Phrases can be found in Charles Funk’s, A Hog On Ice, Harper & Row Publishers, Inc., 1946.
