Why Not Now

Updated: Dec 31, 2020

A poem by Beverly Stock.

Seems like waiting is

all we do. I want to

see you. Why not now?

It's not that hard. Buy a ticket and

travel near or far. To be both in

one place. Why not now?

Explanations overdone

and thousands of miles

overcome. Why not now?

Years, it seems, we've had this

dream. Time stands still until. I'm

with you once again. Why not now?

Heaven and earth has been

moved once or even twice. The

results Are always nice. Why not now?

We're getting older, no surprise. That

same intensity is in your eyes. My

impulse is so very hard to disguise.

Why not now?

What task need I perform until I'm

nestled in your arms? What devil to

pay or dragon to slay? Why not now?

I fear I'll take this to my grave. I'm a

role model for how not to behave.

Always longing for you. Why not now?
