Biologists are prone to sniff,
At the mention of the Hippogriff.
In evolution’s plan, they say,
There is no place for such as they.
In Harry Potter’s world, there are,
Even though they are bizarre.
A horse with wings would not have more
Than two legs, and this beast has four.
Well, I, for one, am glad to waive
His two front legs, his wings to save
I’d even sell Harry Potter’s autograph,
If I could own one, Hippogriff.
My version of “The Hyppogriff” is inspired by the words and images of Oliver Herford’s poem of the same name in the public domain.
The Hippogriff, or sometimes spelled hippogryph, is a legendary creature with the front half of an eagle and the hind half of a horse. Ludovico Ariosto invented the Hippogriff at the beginning of the 16th century.
